Who is T-Bear?
My name is Cheyenne Thorne, a woodworker by trade and artist at heart.
I got my start in the summer of 1989, at the age of 16, when I caught a random episode of "This Old House" (when Bob Vila still hosted it). Something "clicked" inside of me that told me this is what I want to do.
Since then, I've put in ten years combined at Woodley's Fine Furniture, Lockwood House Antiques, and Picture Woods of Boulder.
In between these gigs, I always kept my own amateur shop, even if it consisted of nothing more than a saw and a drill. While I've accumulated over 13,000 hours of experience in the field, I consider myself far from mastering the craft. I still experiment with new ideas and techniques as often as I can.
Cubswork Artistic Woodworking started off in 2003, in the field of specialty custom furnishings, In 2006 I began experimenting with the universe of artistic woodworks. Not long after, I made as much a name for myself in the art realm as I did in the furniture realm. In May 2007, I quit my bus driving job to focus on the shop.
My mission statement changes based on my creativity, opportunities, and whatever inspires me. Some days I have a hankering for some woodburning, others I like to do scrollwork. Some days I'm commissioned to do other stuff. Being a fulltime self-employed woodworker has its challenges, but the satisfaction I get from my work makes the challenges worth it.
I get inspiration from a variety of subjects, though wildlife and nature images generally pique my interest. Sometimes a simple image will cross my path and I want to do something with it: make it into a scrollwork or a carving. Being almost as much an artist as a woodworker I'm always on the lookout for something new and exciting to add to my projects.
Before moving to Ohio in the summer of 2008, I was a member of the Colorado Woodworker's Guild, the Springs Scrollers, the Colorado Carver's Club, and the Pikes Peak Whittlers Association. I joined these groups for sharing in my passion, learning from the previous generation, and hopefully to pass it along to the next generation. Being one of the youngest members of these groups, I represent the new generation of woodworkers, so try to come up with ideas that are new and exciting.
